Friday was our first train ride to Nuremberg in the first class car….clean trains and underground, but the train station is not!!
It was a fast train(120 km/hour and mostly trees ,but green, lush and some wide rivers full of water and mountains. We ate our lunch ( mostly me) and had short naps.We arrived safely to the station.
It was difficult to get directions.Usually train stations have Information kiosks. We followed the signs, but this one had permanently closed. There was a private one WAY down the street.Michael felt like a foreigner dragging his suitcase on the cobble stones,as we made our way down a less than smooth side walk.It was a work out for our suitcase wheels…hopefully they won’t fall off.
We finally arrived,to find they had no maps or English information….and worst of all we had passed our hotel on the way.Well we back tracked to our hotel, Gasthaus Pillhofer. It is a pub/restaurant with floors of rooms above. No elevator,no air conditioning…..Michael said it would be perfect for his friend Kenny Fraser, but a nightmare for Betty who would immediately move.
We see it as part of the journey, also we get CNN and BBC.We are on the fourth floor with a lovely view of the street below through our flower boxes..and a shower in its own room.
After our harrowing experience,we settled in ,had a nap then headed out to pub/restaurant “alley” outside our hotel.Michael spotted an Irish pub(3 on the street)and settled for Guinness. The nachos did not measure up to the Victory Lounge, but European beer is lovely.

One more trip up the stairs to bed…and finish the chocolate bar.
