Geneva

Well it was the long travel day to Geneva ,with 2 train changes and 8 hours.BUT,First World disaster, our trains were all cancelled due to a regional train strike!!!!

Off to the airport with hopes of getting a flight. We could get a flight at 8:30 pm …10 hour wait in the airport….and all the lounges were past security…and we were hesitant to check in Michael’s luggage with a risk of possible loss to add to the day.

Finally we arrived in Geneva exhausted.A lovely room with a soaker tub and separate shower.Did I tell you that there was an airport shuttle….great to see at the airport as we looked for a taxi. The Airport and the train station are in the same building so transportation was easy.

Our chore for Geneva was to pay the bills in a secure internet. Also complicated with security codes had been directed to our Halifax cell phone numbers.Enter Angela to save the day with an extra trip to the condo to get the amounts from the mailed bills.

We took a bus tour in Geneva,as an introduction to this city.We were amazed at the size and how close it was to France.Lake Geneva is over 100 km long and 2-3 km wide and a huge water source for the 2 countries.Geneva is the international centre for so many organizations including the UN,the Red Cross and a huge banking centre.

The flags are rotated weekly

Lake Geneva has the highest water fountain in Europe. It was created for the World’s Fair.it runs all year round unless the temperature falls to near freezing.

There was a floral clock that kept atomic time

This is a view of some of the commercial businesses from across the harbour.

Back to the hotel to drop down to the bar for a couple of drinks, then pack for our trip tomorrow to the Alps! Can’t wait.

Talk to you soon from on High…..

Very interesting descriptions of Geneva. Never been there and didn’t know all those things about it I can’t wait to hear what you have to say about the Alps
